Today at 11:30am 1 of my hive looked like it was swarming, half the bees were about 20-30ft in the air buzzing everywhere, I thought they were swarming, but no, after about 10 minutes of this the bees remaining in the hive started fanning their scent gland and ALL the bees within 2 minutes were ALL back in the hive.
AWESOME SIGHT but weird. Anyone know what they might have been doing?

Sounds like a cleansing and orientation flight; they were going to the toilet and learning to identify the hive. Were they flying in circles above the hive? It can be quite impressive if you're not used to it, but a swarm, when you do see one come out, is far more impressive yet. You won't mistake that.

I had a swarm about a month ago and this looked the same, but these bees were 100 ft away from the hive 30 ft in the air. I have never seen anything like this. Thanks
