Hi to All
For centuries, the products of our beehives have been known and written about for their curative powers.
It's about time we opened a thread to talk about the curative powers of them.
2. Bee pollen
I shall start by posting the following and then asking for more imput and discussion.
Treatment of Some Skin Diseases With Propolis, by L.N. Danilov, USSR,1978
Taking into account the antimicrobial, antipruritrous and epithelium growth
features of propolis, as well as the results of the researches conducted by
B. Tikhonov and V. Balanikova concerning the treatment with propolis of skin
tuberculosis and by G. Mukhamediarow concerning chronic eczemas and
neurodermitis, we studied propolis therapeutic effect in some skin diseases.
Between 1964 - 1972 I used propolis when treating 680 patients for different
skin diseases, in the ambulatory clinics in Svetogorsk (see table). In 90.1%
of the cases the result was positive. I used the propolis in ointment.
Disease - Healed - Improved - NoEffect
Eczema - 90 - 65 - 15
Neurodermitis - 152 - 146 - 14
Trophic ulcer - 51 - 12 - 2
Other diseases - 96 - 8 - 29
Total - 389 - 231 - 60
Total # patients 680
For preparing the ointment (100g), the propolis is purified; in an enameled
bowl 80g of vaseline heated on water bath (Now Simon I myself use honey
instead)at the temperature of 45 degrees - 50 degrees are kept, and then 20
g of propolis are added. It is thoroughly mixed until one obtains a
homogenous mass, it is then twice filtered through a gauze and then left to
make sediments. The ointment should be kept in a cool and dark place, into a
flask with ground-glass stopper.
For preparing the ointment, 100g propolis are poured into a flask, 500 ml
alcohol (I use high alcohol natural booze myself) 96% are added; the
mixture is preserved in a dark place, being stirred now and then. It is
filtered through a gauze after 10 days. The ointment is applied in a thin
layer on the area of the lesion focus which is dressed. The dressing has to
be changed daily.
The tincture (there is also a tincture with propolis) is taken daily 30-40
drops, 30 minutes before meals. (I make mine with natural alcohol).
We treated patients with chronic eczema and neurodermitis with limited
forms. each process wa localized especially on the back (dorsal) surface of
the hand, leg, in the joint of the elbow (the poplitheal space. after 5-6
days of treatment an improvement of the condition of pruritus was found, the
epidermis get soft and more elastic.
After the treatment with the propolis tincture the patients observed thay
had a sound sleep and very good appetite.
Before having propolis, the patients with trophic ulecration of the shank
had been treated with other methods, without efficiency. But due to the
propolis ointment the wound is quickly cleaned, a granulation tissue appear
and also epithelium on the surface of the wound.

The bioflavonoid connection with propolis:
As a ntural therapeutic, propolis power may well be attributed to its reich concentration of bioflavonoids(a group of nutrients that enhance the effectiveness of vitamin C).Currently, bioflavonoids are recognized as being able to heal the capillary system, mend the fragility and permenability of the blood vessels; act as a vasodilator and diuretic, and are considered necessary to fight disese. In medical circles, bioflavonoids are often referred to as vitamin P.
All-natural 'apsirin'. The action of propolis bioflavonoids is almost identical with that of aspirin. They block the same enzyme. But propolis has an advantage over aspirin because it has no side effects. It is called a natural aspirin.Propolis bioflavonoids inhibit or block those enzymes that produce the prostaglandins which cause pain and fever. Symptoms disappear after a small amount of propolis, it has been reported.
