I use Corragated roofing tin under the hives and that makes it harder for them to get into the hives. Dale

GardStar is the only chemical I have used near my hives in over 10 years. The only reason I use it is because the state of Michigan says I must because one of my hives had them and like a dummy I sent a sample to Michigan State University and they id-ed them as SHB and notified the State Beekeeper. Now I must use it to help keep Michigan from being infected with SHB.
They also do a lot of damage to the brood chamber of a hive.

    Hi Russ,

why do you put roofing tin under the hives? I think the beetle can fly, is it for a better landing?
You better bring the hives on a stand up from the ground and hang a tin tray under the hive enters with a screen and water in it to catch the beetle laves before they can reach the ground.

Burning the site with fire may kill the larve in the soil now but what about the larva that drops from the hive next week or next month?
