Thread: Temporary nuc

    because I have several hives already, not in use yet and most say its better for the bees if you start your package in a nuc, I was thinking about using a piece of plywood and putting it between the frames as a temp. nuc and move the wood one or two frames at a time as the bees grow in size.
    Has anyone done this and did you have a good experience from it.

    That will work. I have used high density
    styrofoam board in cooler times.

    There is even a term for it: Follower Board. If you cut it to close tolerances where the bees can't get to the other side of the board and also close off the side not being used at the entrance it will work great. Just make sure to keep a close eye on them so they don't out grow the "nuc".
