I have noticed many wasps in the grass and around the general area of my hives. How do you control wasps around your hives? Are they harmful to my bees?

Have you seen them actually catch bees? Most likely they are eating some pest insect in the grass and are beneficial to you. Even if they do catch an occasional bee, they are not usually a problem.
If they are yellow jackets, and you are feeding the hive (are they entering it?) be sure to have an entrance reducer in place, so they can defend a smaller entrance.
