Well, I started this spring with 2 hives, both in poor shape due to neglect. One hive has really excelled, but the other is doing nothing and a lot of drones are present. The comb in this hive is running diagonally across so I can't pull the frames up. They have filled the bottom brood chamber up, but then they quit. What do I need to do with this hive? Is there a laying worker or something?

Hi Oscar, You must address the cross over frames. If you have plastic foundation, Take tour hive tool and scrape off the bad foundation. Some queens produce more droans than others. Mabe to much drown comb. If you have a lot of good brood, your queen is probably ok, but you need to clean up the hive to find out. If your honey flow has gone, they will not draw new comb. you may need to feed them 1 to 1 sugar water to get them to finish. Good luck.
