Aerial photos as tools for beekeepers

Here's a link to Terraserver, a free site that has most of the aerial photos of the US. You can locate your town, your farm, even your house with a bit of practice. Zoom in, out, move in all four directions. It's a nice little tool for looking at your bee yard and figuring out how far your bees may travel and what they're foraging on.

If you can stand the annoying stamps to protect their images, you can get in even closer.... I could see the kids' slip-n-slide and count the rows of corn...

The pin is on the intersection of Jones Road / Bald Hill Rd. If you move west from the pin on Jones Rd. The first road on the right is Mtn Camp Road. I am the house with the light colored roof at the end of the road. This is my yard at my home in Round Top. If the pin is in the bottom right hand corner, my yard is the center of the photo.

If you move norteast of the pin there is a clump of building. Norteast of these building is where my Catskill yard is at the edge of the field.

Ya know, at first I thought the term "Terraserver" was from the Latin terra, having to do with the Earth. After using this for a couple years and listening to George W. at the same time, I now know better. I think terra-ists are using it too. Mebbe there is such a thing as too much public information.

In some areas arial photographs, property and other information is available on the web usually on the county auditors, or county engineers website. Unfortunately every county is different.

Another piece of usefull information is the FEMA flood maps. Don't want to place your hive in the flood plain. http://store.msc.fema.gov/webapp/wcs...0001&langId=-1

my place is the wooded looking area between the pasture and the dirt road.it goes all the way back about 100 yards into the woods, 21 acres.

the pin is alittle off, my place is south across the road from the pin, (looks like a wedge of trees) but you can see the edge of the lake, im about 3/4 mile from the water.

I work in Macon, GA just south of Thomaston. I don't know Billy but you should tell him if he's in the Macon area come by the store and see me. I'm the manager of the Batteries Plus store across from the Mall on Bloomfield road. How far is Lincolnton from Macon?
