I have some older frames with very dark (black) lines within the foundation which seem to follow the lines of the wires in the foundation, is this normal ?

    Thanks for all comments.

Here's a situation where a picture could really help. Are we talking about a wide line? a narrow line, like the width of the wire? Discoloration is something I never worry about. Wax moths I do worry about. Wax moth lines are 1/8" to 1/4" thick and often run in the midline where you can't really see that they are there without digging in and finding the webs. Also, the wax moths leave little droppings in the webs and sometimes you see these in the cells.

Just a discolouration of the wax from the wires. Happens on old frames sometimes. The bees will use it all the same.
Not likely wax moths. You would know right away by the mess left behind...
