I have been told cleaning used woodware in lye water works great in getting them clean and reducing the chance of AFB. What is the process one should follow in this procedure?

If you HAVE AFB boiling in lye water is an acceptable cleaning method in most states if you don't want to burn them.
Scorching with a propane torch is a good cleaning method.
