I put my first package into a hive on saturday may 4th, let me just say WOW !!!! very exciting. Everything seems to be good so far, within in an hour they were pulling dead bees out of the hive. The next day they were leaving the hive and going to my apple trees about 1 bee every three seconds. My question is when do I open the hive to remove the queen cage. The rest of the week looks like clouds and rain, but still in the 70s in my area.
Wait 1 week. When I installed my bees I could not resist looking before the week was up so I looked after 2 days,They promtly balled the queen right before my eyes!Luckily I could get them off her with smoke and put her back in the cage that she came in and reintroduced her. I was lucky she was not hurt and now she is fine(second brood box being drawn).
So...
Resist looking and wait 1 week. Good luck!
