How to buy bees the first time?

How does one choose a reliable source for packaged bees & queen. This is the first time I am setting up a hive and don't know which supplier I should use for quality bees.

hi cory, i am also getting in this for the first time. i got in touch with a local beekeeping association first. they have a mentor program which is wonderful! he recommended that i buy a "nuc" from a local guy rather than a mail order package of bees. i will get frames of brood, honey and pollen that i simply have to place in my waiting hive. and this guy's queens have a reputation for being of good temperament also. this also increases my chances of getting some honey the first season (and that is something i can't wait to try!!).
