The field workers are all similar age. The difference in color is because several drones mate with the queen and not all the workers have the same "father".
It is easy to find out the age of your bees you can see it on the different color.
A young hatchet bee has a brightness silver color because of her fine hair like a fine fur. When bees clean each other they lost their hair more and more and bees getting darker. After a certain age (to the end of there live) bees loosing the color and the rings getting more and more black, starting from the end of the body. The best to observe on Italian bees their bodys are normally almost orange.
