I have a hive I've been nursing along with chalkbrood hoping it would get better. Today I killed the queen and removed all the brood. (It all looked bad). Sitting next door is a new queen in a nuc with a couple of frames of young brood. The origional colony is in 2 deeps with about half of the frames empty. How should I physically go about merging the nuc with the larger hive? I'm going to leave them queenless for a day or so.

    Thanks,

    Dickm

Since you want the queen on the bottom, I'd move the nuc frames onto the bottom and fill out the box with frames. If you don't have enough, brush the bees off of a few from the hive. Then put on newspaper and the rest of the hive. The other possibility is just put the nuc on top with newspaper and a scrap board on the side and after they have been joined rearrange it all so the nuc's brood nest is on the bottom.
