Is there a problem of oil separation from solution if you add essential oils to sugar water? I'm just assuming that essential oils are truly an oil and not soluble in water. Thanks for any info.
Yes, the oil will separate from the water. It's best if you mix the oil with 100% hoeny, or you can mix the oil with 50% honey then the rest with sugar water.
I mix it with straight honey as far in advance as you can, a year is nice, but a week will do. If I can afford the honey, honey is the best bee food, if not I mix a bit more into the honey and then water it down with sugar syrup. You can mix a quart of the wintergreen honey with three quarts of the warm sugar syrup. I mix the sugar syrup in just before I feed it. Don't mix it when the sugar syrup is too hot or you'll lose a lot of the wintergreen to evaporation.
dragon fly
I only use honey when feeding wintergreen or any other oils to the bees.
