    hi,

About a month ago I posted a letter stating that my first beehive attempt to own failed about a month later, because it had lots of moth worms in it and as a result the bees left the hive.
yesterday the next door neighbor was mowing his lawn in his front yard and noticed lots of bees coming out of a hole in the ground. He called me and I noticed lots of upset bees coming out from a hole about 2 inches in diameter. I looked inside and I could see the hole going straight down the ground about a foot long then turned. I could not see more. The location here is Australia, Melbourne, the weather is beginning of winter, the temparatures at night can be anything from 8 to 12 Celcius, at day time anything from 14 to 22 Celcius.

The question is: Should I attempt to catch them and how? I have never done this before. Or I should leave them to overwinter and try in spring? and how?
    regards,

I've never seen honey bees in a hole in the ground. Are you sure they are honey bees and not some other kind of bee?

I would be highly suspicious of yellow jackets coming out of the hole.

Thanks guys! Yes they are yellow jackets! I have mistaken for my bees, being so anxious to find where they swarmed!

Went and captured a large swarm last Friday . I got it home and housed in a deep brood body . It stayed until Sunday afternoon . No idea where they went as was real windy that day .

Yesterday I went to cut the grass and was about run out of my garage , A swarm had come found me .They had settled into some old deeps I had in the garage .They are now in 2 deeps with 1/2 drawn comb and other half foundation now . Happy day .

Figure my best move will be to wait until Saturday morning . I figure that way they should have some eggs hopefully and will be anchored better .

Then move them to another beeyard about 5 miles away on the river with tons of black berry and yellow clover just starting to open .Another 10 hives to be around as well .
