N. Texas Honeyflow

Does anyone know when the honeyflow starts for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area?

We will get a short strong flow around mid April, then a small but substained till mid june. If you have hives in the city, the flows could last until mid July.

I have one of my hives in the city about 1 mile from the Ft. Worth Botanical Gardens. Hopefully my bees figure out that there are numerous flowers over there. Does anyone know if sunflowers are a good source for nectar to make honey?

I would go and talk to caretaker of the gardens about the pesticide use. They will more than likely have alot of blooming flowers for your bees, but like most intensely managed gardens, they will more than likely have a spraying program that does not include the health of your bees. Suggest they spray in the late evening, when there will be no bees working the flowers and pesticide will evaporate by morning. Also, talk about the benifits of your bees to their garden.
