Remanents of hive moved

I checked on the reminants of the bee yard that i moved monday. I forgot to put a bottom board under them, and did so today. There must be enough bees there to give my now week hive a great help. Do i need to do the newspaper, on top of the shallow supper when i bring them back to the new yard? How long should i wait to check for eggs from the new queens?
