    Question

    Last year was my first "real" year in beekeeping. In July I noticed a few cells of a honey that were a very light clear green. The cells were probably three or four in number, and all touching. What does it come from?

    Purple loosestrife might be one source.
    Are you near any wetlands?

    No, we don't have any wetlands close. The closest thing would be a few ponds, and a river. I received an e-mail from someone in Oklahoma who said it could be from Sumac.

    Is it possible that you were looking at cells that also included some green pollen under the honey?

    hi brandon;
    I extracted 30 lbs of green colored honey last year . looked yellow , until you held it up to the light then it was the prettist color of lime green you ever saw. I dont know where it came from but I do have smooth sumac here and the bees do work it . has any one else extracted green honey?

    This green honet you are talking about sounds like it may be honey-dew from aphids. Ants farm aphids for the sweet dew but sometimes when there is a darth of nector the bees will colect it because it is sweet like nector.

    Sorry for the spelling. A case of the fingers are faster than the brain.
