Today I was at my hive and noticed a LOT of new bees... I guess two of the frames of brood finally matured The bees were flying very fast in circles around the hive... a LOT of them! One of them flew into me and stung me (my fault for getting in her way). What do you think they were doing? Is it normal for the bees to fly around like that? it was the first time I noticed it... in my whole 3 weeks as a beekeeper LOL

    Thanks

It sounds like the new bees were taking their orientation flight, They come out of the hive and keep circling as they get higher and farther away. This orientates them to home, that way they will always be able to find home (some friday nights my wife thinks I should do the same ).

Wait a month and see how many bees do this, it's really quite a site.

LOLOL Are they more/less aggresive? I guess it was just an accident she ran into me? Was cool to see them flying circles, I kind of guessed that was what was going on... there were lots of them.
