Out of curiosity if you were building your own hives and used metal, lets say screws for example. how would the bees react to it and would it have any adverse effect on the honey,
Miki there is no problem with metal in a hive. The queen excluder is from metal and if the bees dont like your screws they cover the head with propolis.

Also, metal frame rests are still used here sometimes (I don't use them anymore) and as Axtman says, the bees just propolize it like they do everything.
