    Re: Closed to the public?

I would love if more of my land owners stopped in and checked us out. Not so I can show off or anything but so they can become more emotionally invested in my business. Maybe they won't knock down...

    Re: Heat exchanger temp setting

How hot does your honey come out of your respective hot rooms? That is most likely the difference. Oh, a 120 for 2 heat exchanges and separators and a 120 for 1 heat exchange and separator. Half the...

I bought 2 of these last year. I didn't get the rod, pouch, measuring tube, or any safety equipment.

Re: Paramount Farms buying out beekeepers?

They are looking for complete bee operations. With the conditions that the owner manages it for a certain number of years I hear. Now who would do that unless they are paying well above market value...

Re: summer mite populations and crashes

One could use formic acid pads with supers on. It will be too hot no doubt, but I would rather kill a few queens than a whole bee outfit.

    Re: buying a cappings spinner?

Buy a used spin float. No reason to spend 15 grand at this stage in the game.

    Re: Angry landowners

I would just tell him how dire your circumstances are. The bees needed supers now and rain, rain, rain in the forecast. So you made a decision, but next time you will call him and consult him first.

    Re: Canola Flow in Dakotas?

I know a guy that runs nd canola. He says that they don't use permanent bee yards, but instead wait to see where the canola is planted and then pay the farmers 500 bucks to put 200 hives down on...

This is the first year I have seen damage from seed treatment dust. Got here earlier than normal with some bees and got in on more planting. Just an air planter issue I believe. Blows the dust for...
  21. Re: Is our precious almonds killing our livestock?

    Re: Inspiration to keep going

If starting with just 50 hives, you will have so much time on your hands you may as well do some wood working. Who needs six and a half days off a week? Hahaha

Lots of bee outfits have been sold on contract. Work for a seasoned beekeeper for a few years. After you know the ins and outs he will set you up. No bank for anything except an operating loan.
