    I try to feed (with EO,s) smaller amounts in the evening with top feeder. Also i put jar feeders on the more prolific hives in the yard, my thinking is the more prolific hives will be so busy...

    Yes.... Every year. Alternative is to over winter in an area that is too cold to fly and no forage, or too foggy and wet and no forage.
