  1. Can I transfer just a few frames from a weak to a strong hive?

    Hey all:

I have two hives that started out with 3-4 frames of bees, honey and brood last May. This is my 2nd season with fair results in the big scheme of things.

Hive 1 is failing. I see the...
  2. Re: New bee location - what do people like for ground cover under the hive

I just have two hives and placed them on my property which is dryland grasses. They can get pretty tall so I put a large flagstone under each hive and in between. It's worked well so far.

Re: Condensation: Curse or water source?

    I saw that article before.

He's in Wyoming where it's really dry. I'm in Colorado where it is also dry.

I'm not really sure what to do about it other than stand pat with a standard inner cover...
  6. Re: Priming a foundation so the bees will draw it out

I have sprayed them with sugar syrup with little affect. I didn't start seeing building going on until I started dumping 25 lbs of sugar in there (actually just making gallons and gallons of 1:1...

Re: Slow start...Time enough to add 2nd deep?

I'm in the windswept plains of Colorado. Super low humidity all winter, very windy, zone 5a.

Since there are about 6 frames of liquid (capped honey and some uncapped syrup) I would say that they...

    Hey all:

I've been feed my 2 hives because they weren't drawing any new comb. Now they've drawn comb and have honey and syrup.

Slow start...Time enough to add 2nd deep?

    Hey all:

I'm in Parker, CO (near Denver).

I started 2 hives with nucs in late May. I didn't feed them anything, expecting them to populate the foundations themselves. In August I found that I...

    First winter coming up--need guidance!

    Hey all:

I started in late May with (2) 4 frame nucs.

Both hives have struggled to fill out frames with comb. I recently figured out that I need to feed them to get that part done...I suspect...

Neighbor being bothered by my new bees

    Hey all:

My neighbor (1/8 mile away) says that my bees are making a beeline for their back deck (which has some plants on it) and are bothering them personally.

She claims now that they are...

    Re: Entrance Reducer?

WWW, I like your method of entrance reducing...The wedges look heavier than a strip of wood which warps and could be easily dislodged. I'm a woodworker, so recognize the simple elegance.

    I wasn't...
