Re: To feed or not to feed...

Take off the inner cover, put down newspaper on top of the frames and pour sugar on the newspaper. You'll want either a few shims or a baggie feeder box so you can put the inner cover back on the...

Re: Marking on queen saved her life

I never even thought about the queen falling off a frame on to the ground. I guess I'll need to be a bit better about holding frames from the brood nest over the hive until I check both sides of it.

Re: To feed or not to feed...

I did that last winter too. One hive barely touched the sugar and the other at it all. Acts as a good moisture absorber for the hive too.

    Re: Building Equipment

I make some of my own equipment, but realized it is more cost effective to use the time I would have spent cutting to take on more consulting hours and just purchase the unassembled equipment from...

Re: My first harvest - questions

I used an air compressor this year. Just have to watch out for bees getting stuck on burr comb.

Re: NUC sales, medium vs deep

I started with two 5 frame medium nucs last May. They built up to two boxes each and came out of winter strong. Both hives have been split once this year and I caught a total of 5 swarms from those...

    Re: Honey prices?

I don't have much to sell, but I plan on selling for $5 for 10 oz in an 8 oz jam jar. I've seen honey sell for that price at the local farmer's market.

    Re: Queen cells

Size of the queen cell does not necessarily correlate to the size or quality of the queen.

    Re: Cell Builder Question

I attended a queen rearing class and they stated you want to wait 24 hours to allow the bees to know they are queenless.

Re: Using bottom board for top entrance?

I did that for one of my hives last year to help them deal with the heat. They appreciated it.

    Package Dimensions

What are the box dimensions of a package? I'm curious if it is possible to install the package in to a medium box using the method that doesn't involve shaking the bees out.

    Re: Painting a pinstripe, help

An airbrush or sprayer work well and shouldn't seep under the tape.
