Re: Brood boxes frames stuck together

Suit up use a little smoke & slow down. Some hives just fly a lot when you open them up. Some are just mean! If you feel safe you can deal with whatever you need to do.
  2. Poll: Re: Do you believe that glued frames are stronger than non-glued?

There is one very good reason (?) for not using glue on hive bodies and frames. If you have a frame or a hive body that needs repair it is much easier to repair the frame without scraping old glue...

Honey4, I think you might have hit on something! I just didn't get any in my hives, guess my girls found better fodder. Also my beemaster talks down on...

    Honey Color?

Here's the setup than the question.

Friday I went into one of our local feed stores and on the counter they had honey from a purported local bee keeper I do not recognize. I picked the jar up and...

  7. Re: Hi There! I'm moments away from ordering a complete hive kit! Any Advice?

jalek, the kit you found is a pretty good kit has far as kits go. I think you will see from everybody's recommendation you can make your money go a lot further if you buy components.

    Order a...

I vote for the spot 10 miles away. Then you have no worries about the tree removal & you get to try out your next additional new bee yard!!

    Re: Assembling Hive Bodies

I don't paint the edges so I can stack the fresh painted boxes cross ways on top of each other without them sticking to much.

I also look for dent & reject paint at discount! Also wood shorts,...
  10. Re: Small bees in my hive - don't appear to be newly hatched

Could also be bees from 'small cells'. I've one hive that I'm trying foundationless & the bees are getting smaller in the whole hive. About 75% of the hive is 1/2 size & they seam to be doing great.
  11. Re: I caused one of my best queens to get killed!

Gene there's a color code for the year the Queen is born/Marked in. So an additional reason is to keep track of Queens that are multiple years old.

Bumping this thread with new information.

I did a tear down an inspection on August 24 and posted a bee yard report. I reported some open swarm cells but I was very puzzled about the large number...

    your Golden suit looks clunky.
  15. Re: What is the best beesuit on the market for preventing bee stings?

My first suit is from http://www.jawadis.us/ that I got on E-Bay with hood & gloves $50. Works great even on cut-outs, but it is warm.

So I mostly use a 'Man Lake'...

    Re: Space management after harvest.

radu43, I'm new so take this with a grain of salt. From what I've read about brooding in mediums is that you want three mediums of brood going into winter. I think you're going to need 40 to 60...

  20. Re: NewBee here learning identifications - need help. (My pics added)

Yellow/ Orange is pollen, shiny is nectar (if they cap it I'd call it honey. caps will be white). IMHO

The siding looks like it might be batten board and if it is you could remove the batten and possibly pull the entire board?

Re: I had to destroy a hive today...

For what it's worth my bee master says to cover the ground under the hive with plastic. His theory is that the pupa will either be trapped above or below the plastic.
