Re: Why isn't my Queen laying?

I am glad it worked out. It is always a great feeling to see that things are as they should be.
If you have capped brood she has been laying for more than a week now.

    Re: What type of paint?

Outdoor Latex in a simi-gloss is what I like. Easy to clean up and holds up well. I feel that Semi-gloss sheds water better and does not stain as bad. I do nt believe the bees have trouble finding...
  7. Re: New guy...ready for someone to tell me I did it all wrong

As for the frames, you may want to consider a small air brad nailer gun. (I prefer using staple style with 2 legs) It should take less than a minuet to assemble one. I do mine in groups of 5. I lay...

    Re: Crystallized honey...I think

For the jars- bring a pan of water to a boil and set the jars down into it then turn the burner off. Let it set there till the water cools 15 minuets or so. Repeat until the honey is clear as it...
  10. Re: How many pounds of honey did you produce this year??

I averaged 66 pounds per on 8 hives. This was a pretty good year considering the drought . A lot of my fellow bee keepers in the area were not as lucky.

Re: Swarms keep leaving after installation

It is not uncommon. I have had it happen before. If you will put a frame in with open brood they will stay. I have never had them leave using this method.

Re: hives full of bees but not stores

If they are bioling over with bees add the super. Thwy will continue to add stores the the brood box. Once they decide to swarm you will not be able to stop them without a split or some other action.

I am sure they will be fine. I you want you can put a small stick under one end of the lid. This will help cool it off.

    Re: Hive beetle??

I always smash them when they give me the opp and make it easy. You will never get rid of them one at a time. Some how one less does make me feel better.

Re: I had to move them into the woods.

They were fine in the sun. I also live in the Nashville area. I have one hive that catches shade and it has twice the SHB as the others. Always ask the question before you take action.

You sure can. I would brush the dead bees off if they are still there and let the bees do the rest:)
  21. Re: Adding a Second Brood Box with Foundationless Frames

It is most common to place the brood box on top. When I add the second box I take a frame of brood out of the bottom place it in the center top to speed up the move to the top box.

Re: New activity in the hive

    1) When I add a second brood box I like to move up a frame of brood. This brings the bees up and thy start drawing out the wax.

2)It sounds like the odd brood you are talking about is...

Re: What can I use to attract Swarm
