The devil is in the details and here they are:
yes I am near Rockwood Park.
I live in your standard 60s build neighborhood on a .4+ acre lot.
Its your average working class neighborhood of...
Seems I touched on a touchy subject. :lookout:
I'll post the whole story with my neighbor on my lunch break.
There is more to the story with the neighbor.
Still curious to hear the stories...
Ironically the county park a few miles down the road is having a honey bee festival this weekend.

Seems my neighbor complained, but our county has nothing for zoning of bees directly. Indirectly they classify them as live stock but they allow "hobbyist" to keep one to two hives.
With out...
I wouldn;t think of extracting foundationless frames with out support, YMMV. :) I have heard of people using fishing line opposed to standard frame wire.
I am curious how well the medium...
I like them & my bees like them. No problems yet with them and as with any Kelley product, they are nice, heavy duty frames too.

My best hive swarmed on the 9th. I didn't find brood or the queen till yesterday, the 21st. Maybe it takes them a while to nest a bit before she will start laying?

Greetings from Midlothian.
Did you ever find a class? I am still looking.
My mouse wheel is worn off now. Glad I have a spare.
What size dowels do you use?
I have read everything from 1/4" to 3/8" with 5/16" being the average.
I also plan to make my own cell cups this year.

is it necessary? How do you do it? Where do you get the royal jelly?
Please forgive my ignorance, still learning about queen rearing.

I liked the metal one as well. I couldn't help but wonder how well the same size disc would hold up if made from UHMW, maybe polycarbonate. If someone had a drawing I would send it off to one of out...

Well, I ordered one of each. Should give me an idea of which direction I want to go in. I really like brushy mtn discs but they are rather expensive.

Two of us are going to make a batch of Coats' nuc boxes and will likely use them mostly as swarm traps. Do you guys running nucs like that use the entrance discs? Which ones do you like? What size...
I decided not to post in the "meetings & classes" section because I figured the question would gather more attention here and I was not publishing class information.
I'm still very early in my...
Same for me in Richmond. If its warm enough for some to fly I'll see a few bringing back some pollen. Well, I don;t know if it is pollen but it sure looks like it.
SS
I really like this idea. How would clean up be managed? Run a cycle with just bleach?

First year and all that for me. I have one hive that has become aggressive enough I'm not sure I want it my back yard with kids all around me. The other hives are fine. The hot hive will attack if...
I have a small hive, growing slowly. Entrance reduced way down. My other two hives do something this one does not. During the day there are no bees at the entrance. All three have bees hanging out...
I go to look at the bees at night all hanging around the entrances with a red led head lamp. Most the bees are just hanging out still. I always look to see if I can spot any mites. I haven't...
Greetings from Midlothian. I have three langs this year and a TBH for next. Although I am medication free.
