Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Trying to do swarm control, but have found capped queen cells, so they would swarm in about 7 days. Mid West Colorado.

Why do bees like my wood lot?

I have a wood lot, with cut and split wood in it, plus sawdust. The bees dig through the sawdust and seem to be biting pieces off the logs. What are they doing?

    Crystalized Honey

Do bees have to have water to eat crystalized honey, or do they just eat it the way it is.

Re: Hive died, how do I get rid of ants?

If you want the ants killed and gone, put a thick, solid line of Boric Acid across the entrance.

Re: Dog kennel to keep bears out

If a dog kennel will keep a bear out, I'll eat it. But it won't obstruct the bee flight. I wouldn't recommend a dog kennel. Try a 10 foot brick or cement wall.

    Pollen and feeding question

How do I feed dry pollen? Does it need to be wet? And is it too early to be feeding sugar water, when the temperature is below freezing at night, and up to 40+ in the daytime?
  16. Re: Are you ready for the Odfrank overwintering challenge?

I lost 50% this winter, out of 8 hives. All the ones that died were small swarms, and didn't really have a chance.

Re: Drones drones and more drones

Your bees no doubt killed the queen, or something happened to her, so if you don't find her, get a new one or combine it with another hive.
