Re: Coloring and putting symbols on Entrances

This is the first year I am putting my splits in a straight line. Did 5 splits yesterday and they were bringing pollen in today and all hives seemed normal and going to their hive without issue. This...

He shipped me Queens on Monday and got them yesterday. All Queens came in alive and looking very healthy. Great communication and great service. Thanks Johnny!

    Re: is he still around

How long is it good for? Without having to look it up. I bought some from Sundance 3 or so years ago or so. I met Sundance in person about 5yrs ago and he was a really good dude. Hope all is well...

    The sexiest part of beekeeping

I thought it would be a Fat Bottom Queen(get it?), but there is nothing more sexy than a solid frame of Brood! I almost don't know what to do with myself. Oh my!

    Re: Piping Queen

I picked up 5 queens last year. I couldn't do my splits for a couple days so I just had them sitting there in their cage. One would start piping and the others would join in. It was really cool. Only...

    Re: Praying Mantis redux

I find praying mantis hanging right above the entrances from time to time. No big deal. I catch them and take them home and put them in my garden.

Re: Honey Bees and Purple Martins

I wouldn't worry about the Martins. They will probably get some, but I bet Dragonflies will get more every year. Even the combination of both wouldn't be enough to cause concern. Unless you were...
  11. Re: What does a swarm do when they are happy with their home?

Do it at dusk and you'll be fine. If you add the brood and put some 1:1 feed on them it's almost a guarantee they will stay.

What I do is cut up queen excluders and staple them to the entrance...

    Re: Nectar producing flowers

That's not a bad app, but it doesn't say what flowers are nectar producers.
  13. Re: What does a swarm do when they are happy with their home?

    ^this

You could also add a frame of brood from your other hive.
  14. Re: Watched a beeweaver video on their first attempt at TF bees….

I have 2 beeweaver queens. One is 6yrs old this year and my best producer, early build up and gentle as can bee. My other one is 3yrs old this year. Not as good as my other and they do have a bit of...

    Any N. Texas Swarms Yet?

First week of April is when I mostly get my first call. My spring buildup has been slow with the real cold temps this year, so I think the swarms might be another 10 days to 2 weeks out.

    Re: Jar feeders?

Seems if there is a 25 or so degree difference in day and night temps it causes the jars to leak.

    Re: hot hive requeening

I've only had to requeen a hot hive once. I did the Michael Bush divide and conquer method and it worked. It was still a pain, but it got the job done.

Only other real mean bees I've dealt with is...

    Re: Building nuc hives

I made 2 medium nucs from D-Coates planva few years ago. I just change a couple dementions. I used these 2 nucs twice as swarm traps and caught swarms both times. I actually made 8 more today.
