    Re: Burlap Smoker Fuel Source

Check with coffee houses.... could get some for free, especially if you promised a small jar of honey.

Forgot to mention ... I got my first burlap bag from a seafood joint. Had oysters in it.

Could you use sugar cubes in lieu of making fondant? Sure would be easier. Could be more expensive... but in a pinch...

Thanks for the suggestions/replies. I'm slowly learning to live the excess glue. Guess it just takes time.

    Propolis problem

I have a hive that really puts out the bee glue. It's almost impossible to pull a frame in the brood box without destroying it. I've never had a hive that produced this much glue and stuck...

Re: Some bee always on porch

Thanks for the ideas. I was afraid to smoke them for fear of them just flying around. Guess I'll give it and the water a try anyway.

    Some bee always on porch

I want to move a hive but cannot find a time they are all inside the hive. I check before daylight and around 10 at night and there are always around two dozen bees on the front porch. Is there a...

    Crazy Comb

What is the best way to clear out a super that the bees have built comb across frames instead of lengthwise (some had starter strips and some were foundationless)? It's completely full and very...

    Re: Hanging a queen cage

I just received four queens, each had at least 3 attendants, all were in the pictured cage.

    Re: Hanging a queen cage

I believe (on the one like I pictured) it should be horizontal with the tube at the top. That way, if any attendants were to die, they would not block the exit and the queen could still escape.

    Hanging a queen cage

What is the preferred method for hanging a queen cage like the one pictured below and exactly where in the hive would you place it when re-queening.

    Thanks,

    Re: Hot Hive Re-Queening?

Thanks for the reply. The hive is definitely as bad as the one in the video. Guess he'll just have to suck it up and give that a try.

    Hot Hive Re-Queening?

This past spring my son trapped a swarm that when moved from the trap to a deep got real busy about building up. In very short order there were 2

    Re: Theft

I like the idea of the game camera/cell phone. That would allow both realtime monitoring as well as pictorial evidence if it was needed to identify the culprits later.

    Clustering?

When it gets cold enough for bees to cluster, do they cluster in any specific place in the hive or is it random during the cold weather?

Is there a rule of thumb about how long it takes the bees to cure honey? I would assume weather plays a part but have no idea as to how long the process takes.
