    Re: BT on wet supers?

The instructions for using BT is that you should use the mixture within 24 hours of mix. This allow it to dry while bacteria are still in spore stage. Based upon this I would not recommend spray of...

    News Bees

I have seen what we always called 'news bees' since child hood. They come in two sizes, one about size of a bumblebee and the other about the size of a yellow jacket. Both are colored like the yellow...

  10. Capped Brrod from Hot Hive to Gentle Queen

If a frame of capped brood is moved from a hot hive to a colony that has gentle bees, will newly emerged bees still be aggressive? Is aggressiveness the result of genetics or influence of current...

Re: Wiring Frames without an Embedder

I use the spur embedder. I keep it heated in a small coffee pot with water. I also use a quick release clamp on the end bars so that the wire is very tight after releasing the clamp.

Re: screened bottom boards in winter...

I use political signs on the times that I do close them. Last year I left them all open and did not loose any of my 12 colonies.

I did a Google on 'Cruet' and found something close at local WalMart
  18. Re: How do you get bees to finish capping honey?

I would remove capped frames and then crowd them to encourage them to finish capping. Crowding is also a way to get them to cap the corners.

Re: What's the best Material for Lids?

I tried using OSB stand board last year. It was a complete failure. While it remains flat, it wicks moisture even after being painted.
  23. Re: Will the queen stay out of shallow honey supers?

If they overwinter in the super she will start brood in the supers. I have had the queen lay drone brood in lower part of honey supers even when she had two deeps for brood nest.
  24. Re: Thermal scanner for determining hive location in house?
