    Re: Making a nuke

    I agree with Mike B.
I will add that if you have difficulty with the abbreviated version perhaps it would be beneficial for you to spell it out; Nucleus (singular) or Nuclei (Plural).

    Re: Honey woes

It doesn't because you are placing a box of foundation in between, not dividing it with a box of honey like is done in cell starter hives. It isn't some outlandish practice that I invented, there are...

    Re: Honey woes

Because it puts the bees in overdrive in order to fix it, it forces them to draw out the frames that are dividing the brood nest. It's a technique I have used many times in the past to both get...

    Re: Honey woes

Put your super of foundation between the two brood chambers, splitting the brood chamber will cause them to draw out the foundation. And I agree with the comments to get rid of the excluder.

Re: Thermosolar Hive; the new silver bullet

Actually this is the only place in the world that calls them "Russians". Everywhere else in the world they are known as "Primorskys" They are an Asian honey bee.
  7. Re: bear problem-- can I raise new hive inside a big barn??

We had one locally last spring with 5 cubs. The warden said 2-3 is most common, but 4-5 isn't as rare as we might think.

Re: Thermosolar Hive; the new silver bullet

Running hotter hive temps isn't a new idea in the realm of Varroa control. American Bee Journal featured a article on the subject back in the October issue of 2001. There have also been several...
  9. Re: bear problem-- can I raise new hive inside a big barn??

I have found that the most effective means of keeping bears away from the hives is to eat the bears. So far it's me 2, bears 0. They both dropped in their tracks after being hit with a 12 ga slug.

Re: 15 Days No Eggs or Larvae

Sometimes packaged queens don't start to lay once released. I don't have any scientific reasoning to back up my hypothesis, but I believe that if a queen is caged too long some do not ever lay again....

Re: Splitting a Package into Nucs

It would be very unlikely that you have long enough of a season to split a spring package and build the splits up to a point of being able to winter. If you are insistent on making multiple nucs out...

Re: Please help me understand keeping a Nuc

#1 Nucs are cheap to keep.
A nuc box cost about 10.00 to build or less.
#2. A nuc is sacrificial if you need to use it to boost a production hive. It gives you a spare queen if needed, it has...

    Re: cut out gone bad?

Did the Stadium owners expect that you would remove the bees? If so, now what are you going to do when they rebuild in the current cavity?

Re: green drone frames-do they work?

They worked great at rearing lots of mites and infesting my hives.

I put them on the pile of carp I will never use again.

    Re: pronunciation

In French the accent mark is used to mark "High Vowels", not the accent on the word. If you are basing your pronunciation on that alone it should be a long E sound. Not long A.
