I prefer the more passive oil tray and screened bottom.
They are terrible right now and the war goes on.

Re: It's going to get hot

Here in texas I go to copper screen door wire the whole width of the entrance without an entrance board. A "V" shaped piece slid in the entrance just shy of 3" shorter than the entrance works great....
  8. Re: Should I remove the entrance reducers in this hotter weather?

I use old copper screen door wire across my hives also with about a 3" opening for exit/entry here in Texas. All my hives are in full sun because of the SHB and the screen also keeps them buggers out...

  10. Re: Who uses a vaporizer with oxalic acid as their main treatment practice? Please h

    1) Yes, bar none this method will kill mites with less overall harm to the bees.
    2) No, isolate or remove the supers or treat when there are no flows.
    3) Supposedly there is Oxalic Acid in Honey...

Funny, I always paint mine almost down to the edges so I can see them better. I've had 1 for over 40 years. Used a yellow handled screwdriver for years before I knew better.

yep, they will not climb or fly out. Less is more also. Here in SE Texas I had lost enough developing hives to the SHB and once you see and smell a slimed hive the hatred for the beetles comes out. ...

Mineral oil kills instantly. Only about 1/8" or less in tray is all it takes. Will kill adults, larvae and also wax moths larvae that the bees chase and they fall.
