Hear, hear !
I'm the only one who uses a stout Turkey feather to brush the bees off ?
Well it was free, found it in the yard !
Mostly brown here too. Bumblebees are all that i see working anything today so far.
Drones getting the boot big time now.
Is it over ? Any nectar producing flowers survive frosty nights ? Asters is about all
we have left going on here i think.
Had almost 2 med .frames worth that i set out on top a lumber pile about 60' from the hives and see some dead bees around it. So they may kill one another over it .
I can see why you wouldn't want...
Does this create any problems amongst the bees from multiple hives ?
I started beekeeping last year with all mediums which worked well when buying package bees.
This year , after losing both package colonies last winter i bought 2 nucs which came with deep frames so...
Apparently some of the folks down under seem to like it.
Tried some today, once you get by the color it is quite tasty. ;)
I put a couple of empty frames in a medium super this summer for the sake of harvesting some natural cut comb honey this fall and it seems the queen moved
up into them and used them for brood....
The bearding party broke up and went foraging mid morning. They are in the Asters now. Not quite 60s today. Plenty of Asters here on the property. Field is abuzz.
Welcome aboard !
What does it mean , overcrowded hive ?
I've never seen the Aster crop here so heavy before.
Might be because i've changed my mowing habits to benefit the bees.
Also got a stinging warning yesterday upon approaching the hives...
My 2 hives have been in the Aster patch at the house for about a week.
Have about two acres of it with 3 different varieties. Glad I didn't mow it this summer. They seem to like
the small white...
Got my 1st whiff of goldenrod nectar in the hives today.
Major traffic in and out of my two hives.
Better to go by pollen charts than believe what i say .
Just started seeing some bright orange pollen coming in here today.
Midwest supplies , free shipping on orders totaling $59.
No sign of anything slowing down in central Maine.
Bees are going crazy in and out of the hives.
Plus some Goldenrod starting to bloom.
Looking like a banner year here . Take all this with a grain...
Can i put these back on and will the bees deal with the leftovers? Deadouts from last winter.
Need to keep the drawn frames in circulation.
Thanks for the input.
Anyone else ever noticed that if you accidently cross someone in a post
that often times they will migrate over to your profile to see what personal info they can find about you ? Creepy i know....
Still busy packing something away here.
Been having ant problems for awhile and today disturbed/removed the ant nest under the hive. All the ants went up and tried to get in the hive front door.
In no time the bees countered by amassing...
No prob, thanks for checking and enjoy.
Knew the doe had a little one around but this morning was the first
time i actually saw the fawn out with her.
Took the picture using quite a lot of zoom...
From the woods of Maine, more than just bees propagating.
