  1. Re: packages installed on "stocked" deeps, why feed?

There is no need to feed a hive to make it "more robust" unless you are pushing for maximum production. For a hobbyist letting nature take it's course with adequate starter stores is just fine. I...

Re: jwcarlson, RE: your quilt box.

I have been modifying some quilt boxes by stapling 1/8" mesh on the bottom, and then adding a 5/16" rim on the bottom as a beespace, with a four inch gap on one end as an upper entrance and vent. The...

    Re: inverting a hive

I have had bees not abandon upside down combs.
  7. Re: Looking for a small bucket with a honey gate valve?

    Michael:
I would think everybody here agrees that my musings deserve a special page in the next edition of your book and on your website; I will very generously forego any copyright fees so that the...
  8. Re: Looking for a small bucket with a honey gate valve?

    Charlie will love this one:

"A small honey crop will fit in a large bucket but a large honey crop will not fit in a small bucket."

I suggest you just use a three or five gallon bucket and...
  9. Re: UPDATE: Hives Not Opened in 10 Years...Video Posted

I would have fumed the bees down onto new frames and drawn comb and into a new box and removed some of the honey. Don't see that you accomplished much.

    Re: State Bee Brand

I have been dealing with Brandnew, but their equipment is not as good as the company they bought out. The set screws to fasten the head to the brander are poor design.
  11. Re: bees mixed with honey to be crushed and stained

You either are not removing all the clinging bees, or you have a robbing problem and are not protecting the comb from robbers after you pull it out. This time of year robbers can jump on pulled combs...
  12. Re: bees mixed with honey to be crushed and stained

Sorry Charlie, NOT. This super came from Monte Sereno. Look at the date on the photo and check your calendar. Just because you ONCE in my 45 years of pulling honey supers helped me pull a few boxes...
  13. Re: bees mixed with honey to be crushed and stained

We just pulled this last week and we bring no bees on it back to the honey room. We use a blower to clear the bees. Is this the kind of bulging comb you are talking about?

  14. Re: bees mixed with honey to be crushed and stained

If you have bees stuck to your combs you are doing something wrong. I harvest boxes and boxes of bulging combs with no dead bees sticking to them.

Re: Best Frame for Comb Honey?

I have good success with any frame with a comb guide (Kelley F frame or
GTB with homemade comb guide) and no foundation, between drawn combs in a shallow or medium super spaced nine frames to a...
  19. Re: Do you leave Frame Feeders in all the time?

I have no need to leave them in but probably would if I needed to feed year around. I don't like that they reduce a ten frame box to eight frames. I fed a few bait swarms with them this year and just...
  20. Re: Who made this 5 gallon bucket strainer holder?

This strainer is Kelley item #236, the website picture shows the wrong item which is not the bucket strainer with three legs but the strainer with a tank clamp. You should call them to specify the...
