If they are HOT all the time, and every time you go into them. Than i would re-queen.I do not like hot bees! And you do not have to have a Hot hives.

Just look for eggs not the queen.If you need on a rainy take a light with you.I do when i need it.

For my self i have VSH a dark bee,also raise queens.You ask about what would be the best for you,Carni's for all the reasons listed.Dark bees usely do better with the cold.
