    Re: Purchased queen question

I hope to be able to hive her tomorrow afternoon when the temps make into lower 60s. I have had her in my downstairs den where the temp stays about 68-69 degrees. So far only one attendant dead but...

    Purchased queen question

I picked up a queen saturday to make up a nuc with some brood from two of my strong hives. The weather has been what I thought was too cool to take apart my brood boxes. My question is how long can I...

    Re: Question on nuc creation

Thanks for the replies. Checked my three hives this past week and two were strong with plenty of bees and stores so I thought that would be perfect opportunity to try to start a nuc and not set back...

    Re: Question on nuc creation

What is the best way to feed a nuc? This will be my first nuc but I usually use a hivetop feeder on my normal size boxes. Thinking about drilling a hole in cover that will fit a quart jar to feed...

    Re: Question on nuc creation

Thanks just wanted to make sure that bees from two different hives could coexist. Also should I add another nuc box and let them build up ten frames before I move them into a normal deep hive body.

    Question on nuc creation

Is it possible to create a nuc using a purchased mated queen and pulling a frame of brood and nurse bees from two different hives so as not to weaken the donor hives for honey production? Also...

    Re: To Feed or Not

That was my fear that the syrup would encourage brood build up and a cold snap could doom my hive.

    To Feed or Not

Went into winter with four hives and three are currently alive. Temperature today hit 70 and checked hives and two were good on stores but one is a little on the light side. I am located north of...

    Re: First time nuc question

Thanks for the responses. I think I will add second box with only a couple of drawn frames. Maybe the undrawn frames will give the bees something to stimulate them into storing more syrup.

    Re: First time nuc question

I had enough drawn comb for all 10 frames so the bees did not have to draw any wax. I can't get them to fill more than one or two frames with syrup and very little of that gets capped. So all...

    First time nuc question

I purchased two nucs about second week of May. I transferred both nucs into 10 frame deeps with drawn comb and have been feeding 1:1 continuously. The bees only seem to be laying brood in the three...

Best way to separate honey from cappings

I'm sure this has been discussed many times but done search and can't find answer. I need to separate the honey that is in my cappings and thought I had read where there is a way to heat the cappings...

Re: 9 or 10 frames in honey supers

Thanks for the replies. I will probably pull a few supers in the next week or so and I will try putting only 9 frames back in. That will help to give me extra drawn frames to rotate in the future....

Re: 9 or 10 frames in honey supers

So with 9 frames instead of 10 one gets the same amount or more honey. What about 8 frames? Has anyone weighed their extracted honey for results?

Re: 9 or 10 frames in honey supers

If I put 9 frames in 10 frame hive can I put 1 or 2 frames with foundation between already drawn frames to gain drawn frames or will they ignore foundation and make a mess of old frames by drawing...

Re: 9 or 10 frames in honey supers

Do you run 8 in 10 frame box? I only have 4 hives and honey is a nice byproduct of my hobby.

Just wanted opinions and reasonings on why people run 9 frame vs. 10 frames in honey supers.
  18. 2 month old hive and no brood need advice

  19. Re: Package bees and postal service delivery

Re: Drawn comb and new package

Thanks for the advice. How long should I feed with the head start of drawn comb and when should I add second brood box. I was concerned by feeding they might fill up drawn comb with syrup.
