I'm not sure what zone you are in but in my area mason bees love Pieris Japonica, Red Bud, Winter Honeysuckle and Dandelions. They also will work plants in the mustard family such as turnips, rape,...
Just a quick update for this season. The mason bee natal tubes will begin to ship in early January, 2012 and continue thru February according to the destination. See previous post regarding the care...
Crimson clover is a good source for bees in my area along with White Dutch. With this said, Ball clover beats the other clovers. In most areas clovers should be seeded in the fall.

Stick to regular table sugar. It is best for the bees.
Wish to buy a 60 lb pail of sourwood honey. Email me at bees@mysite.com
Thanks
Like you said it varies from bee to bee and from season to season. Forage availability and weather are large factors. With my own mason bees I've seen as few as 5 cocoons and as many as 13 cocoons...
In the hot and humid summer months of Alabama, buckwheat is a fickle nectar producer. It does much better where the days are warm and the nights are cool such as in the northeast. Here it will...
The best sunflowers that I have found for honeybees is the annual Lemon Queen sunflower. The perennial sunflower by the same name is not so good.
I've already recovered more swarms thus far than all season last year. Almost out of spare equipment already. Ever time there is a warm sunny day that follows several rainy days, the swarms come.
My area of extreme North Alabama was hard hit on Wednesday. Couldn't work today due to no power so I checked all my bee hives and had no damage to them. Lots of trees, power lines and buildings...
Sounds like you are doing all the right things. My experience is that if they stay put for two nights, they are not likely to leave. If I install a swarm on foundation only with no drawn combs or...
I'd also vote for Boxwood, particularly the small leaf variety.
The method works well as long as you destroy larvae next to the cells you wish to rear queens in. Otherwise, they will be connected together making the removal of queen cells difficult. You can also...
I work for a firm that sells tons of cotton seed. I could probably collect a pound or two from the seed treatment line when we start running cotton seed.
Guess it depends on what type feeding you are doing. When I open feed in the beeyard, I buy the round styrofoam tube pipe insulation and cut into round sections and float a few of these in the syrup....
Upholstery cotton is an ideal nesting material. I use it in all my bumbus homes.
Keep in mind that mason bees are early spring pollinators. They are great on fruit trees and early blooming plants but mine are all gone before the veggie garden is in bloom. My masons are active...
Same here today with temps in the 60's. Its a good feeling to find live bees and lots of honey stores in late January. All the best.

Fed all mine today and so far they look good. Got a couple more days before the next cold spell. Hope everyone's bees are OK.
