  1. Re: New incubator set up. Modified slightly, looks good, cheap.

With exoterra I see cages upright and on their sides. Could you stack them on their sides with a layer of empty cages or wavy wire mesh to prevent rollers from being in direct contact. Or if you...

Great thread...sadly north of the border things are not so reasonably priced:) that little exo terra incubator runs $175 plus tax

I am interested in reading responses to Grozzies post. Any...
  3. Re: New incubator set up. Modified slightly, looks good, cheap.

I have that unit for drying sugar blocks...works well. Unfortunately no basement bargains on units shipped to Canada.

It would make sense to use it as an incubator in the spring/summer. Why can't...

Re: Question about winter/spring build up

Other threads speak of the risks of stimulating/supporting an earl spring. Some feel that if this is done and the westher regresses there is a significant risk of bees sticking with the brood not...

Re: Help me find the queen

There is a post on here from last year..I had real trouble finding a Queen. I advise you look it up as whatever advise I was given my eyes now gravitate towards her if she is on the frame.

    Re: To wrap or not?

Your temps are similar to ours..I only put wrap on the tbh the langs are not wrapped. We get rain when above freezing so hives out in the open get a tarp over the top or a piece of metal roofing....

Re: Show us your honey labels!

Is the emphasis on "trying" or "making" when it comes to making a living from honey and bees:) How many hives do you manage?

Your labels are so beautiful and colorful. I am waiting on a run of our labels...must admit ours are very minimalistic. We tried a lot of options and somehow I kept coming back to the plain label I...

    Re: Confused about winter feeding

We had mild weather 6-10 C but wet, then cold -10 C and dry with some snow, then warm again with lots of wet and now it is cold again. I don't know what the bees will think of this flip flopping...

Re: First time making a split

If you split a hive in half in spring when drones are out and mature, if you get the Queenless side Queenright will both sides grow enough to produce harvestable honey in the same year?

    If so it...

    The s
"Smart car" is a model of car...tiny so it will fit where the hives are, the dumb cars and truck can't get into that area easily. The tractor would fit...do they have normal vehicle batteries?

That fits with what I see...strong hives have bees all over it and weak ones don't seem to be anywhere near it.

Do the weak hives utilize the capped honey, nectar and pollen in the hive or is...
  17. Re: Who wants to talk about unusually warm winter weather?

I had read that one shouldn't put protein in the hive to stimulate or support brooding up as if there is a cold snap the bees tending brood will not cluster or move off it to access food stores. Is...

So you put the winter feed on top of the frames of the bottom box and then put honey frames in a box above that. By doing that you attempt to keep the bees in the lower part of hive until they use up...
