Don't you think affiliate marketing is the way to go, (see my previous post)?
I wonder how far the Amazon affiliate fiasco will go. I can't believe the revenue generated will amount to a great deal. It could have a serious impact on many small businesses.
Personally I've...
I use an old refridgerater with a lightbulb inside. It's great for warming or liquifying a bucket of honey too.
Does anyone know where I can get a cheap thermostat which I can wire to the bulb to...
I was removing a colony from a sprinkler box at the end of October. When I opened the lid the combs were broken exposing the honey in some capped cells which appeared to be fermenting.
Was this...
Today I observed something which I've never seen before and not expected. Last night I noticed a small swarm in a neighbor's Bottle Brush bush.
I intended to collect the swarm this morning since...
Gold Star Honeybees makes what looks like a great kit for those that want to keep all their fingers.

It seems peculiar that honey in the fridge usually crystallizes pretty quickly, but putting comb in the freezer actually prevents it from crystallizing.
It also kills off and wax moth...
I heard someone told the BP joke to the President. He laughed ...... so did Martha! :D
Hi Bill
I think I would move a couple of frames from the middle of the 'nest' into the center of the new box. Then another couple from the extreme sides and put them each side of the middle frames...
I was originally told it was just a swarm and was going to hive them, but when I realized they'd started building combs I saw the possibility of a webcam, which was much more appealing than just...
I have a colony of bees which has decided to build it's nest, fully exposed, in a bush.
I'm in San Diego so obviously the weather is going to be kind to them, even the rain probably won't present...
Thanks for that Chick. I've been in touch with them and set them straight about a few things. I'm really hoping that they do call me next time.
See my post on the other thread "Bees at a ballgame"...
I live within a few miles of Petco Park and my business is live swarm removal. I get calls all the time from people who are concerned enough about honey bees to seek out a beekeeper who will remove...
I was told that hives should have sun in the morning, shade in the middle of the day (out of that hot English sun) and sun in the evening.
I saw hives in Turkey out in fields without a tree in...
Thanks for the suggestions. The biggest problem is that they are so sensitive that even climbing a tree, which is about 15 feet away, to try to get a rope around the pole prompted them to sting us.

I'm trying to help someone who has had bees in an owl box for some months. The original intention was to out them in a hive so he can keep them.
Unfortunately when we approached them to start the...
My wife is concerned that if a bee from one of my (illegally sited) hives stings someone, I might get sued.
Leaving aside the part about the hives being illegally sited, I think it would be...
I'm refurbishing my solar wax extractor. I always seem to have a lot of old comb laying around because I do cut outs, far too much to mess with old panty hose.
A while back I saw a post about...
I did a cut out yesterday. The householder said they swarmed a few days before, but the cavity was still crammed full of bees.
While I was cutting out the combs with brood I found lots of queen...
I had a call from someone who has 30 avocado trees and wants a hive for about a month for pollination.
I try to be accommodating so I think I'll do it, but have no idea how much to charge. Any...
I think we had a light frost a couple of nights, probably 28°. During the day sometimes it's plummeted to below 75°. :D
It's really bad again today, there are clouds!
As for rain, I think...
I had some of this when I lived in Fresno and was worried about starting a fire with a smoker. I'm not sure whether it's as good as conventional smoke but it's an interesting alternative.
I found...
I collected a small swarm from an olive tree on Sunday 21st, the winter solstice!
I know our climate in San Diego is mild, but the first day of winter?

Hi, thanks tecumseh
I'm always a little wary about heating honey. Lots of people seem to think it changes the taste, although I'm not sure how hot it has to be before it changes.
I think...
