    Re: Walking Bees

If it's a handful of bees I wouldn't worry about it. Bees wear out just like people
  2. Re: Can I overwinter my bees in two deeps? I'm a bit north of Boston.

I test them by lifting not opening unless it's a warm day. If they are light then of course I need to open to slip in a candy board but try to do that on a warmer day.
  3. Re: Can I overwinter my bees in two deeps? I'm a bit north of Boston.

I am near you in Rowley I actually use 3 deeps for my 8 frames and 2 for my 10 frame. Have had good luck just check them end of February and feed if needed. Last winter they went through a lot of...

Re: I assume she knows what she's doing

What is a wild bee? do bees in a house do something different than the bees in our hives? I have never noticed a difference in swarms or cut outs from the ones in my hives they all seem to buzz...

    Re: Transplanting milkweed?

Milkweed has a long tap root and doesn't transplant well. Take some seeds when they form pods and start plants from those it will be a lot easier.

    Re: Queen Cup.... Nuc?

One queen cup sounds like replacement not swarming. Any eggs or uncapped brood? Did you see the queen?

    Re: Wax Droppings?

If you have brood eggs and pollen be happy! Bees are making lots of wax and are a little clumsy:)
  9. Re: How long does it take for bees to abscond? (How long until you know they want to

Usually find out they want to abscond right after they leave!

Re: Help! Mould look on honeycomb

Looks like pollen hard to tell if it's mold on it or not. It will strain/filter out

Re: Installed package. Pain ensued! Help

I think part of the reaction you see is concern. Bees can hurt you or those around you, in my opinion the folks making videos indicating that working with bees and no protection is the norm are...

Re: Installed package. Pain ensued! Help

I have to say that three stings does not seem like an aggressive hive to me. I wouldn't worry about it unless they start stinging with no stimulation from you. They are stinging insects after all!

Re: Idea for Varroa Mite messurements

Good idea but the problem with that is all of the other stuff that will collect there. Wax, bee parts, pollen etc. I am afraid a sticky board and counting is the best way. However, how many you...
  16. Re: Hypothetical question - 2 packages and 3 queens possible

The problem with your idea is packages are in a state of losing population as soon as you hive them. Taking bees from them before they have chance to replace those losses is probably not a great...
  17. Re: Selling 1 Pound of honey. Size of Jar or weight of honey?

Honey is sold by weight not volume. A 1 lb jar holds about 12 oz volume if I remember correctly

Re: Idea for Varroa Mite messurements

You can't use weight unless somehow you can keep the bees from collecting nectar and pollen, raising brood and dying etc. the weight of a hive fluctuates almost constantly by much more than the...

    Re: Nansulate--Bee Protector

It's an insulating paint. 42 dollars a quart recommend 5 coats so pretty expensive! I don't think temperature is a big issue for bees compared to all of the other challenges.

So you are e putting bWes you think might be Africanized on school grounds? That doesn't seem prudent especially since you have now said so on the Internet.
