Re: 10 frame double deep or single?

If Walts methods are used you should have med pollen box-deep-med of capped honey configuration shouldn't you? Yes, I have wintered this way for the past three winters with no problems.

    Nucs brooding too much ???

I've been overwintering 5 frame nucs for a few years with great success. 5 frame nucs started Aug 1st seem to always get everything in order ie brood and stores. This year they seem to be more...

    Re: Is comb building over?

Try quart jars with only 3 holes in the lid, works great for me.

    Re: Too much honey?

You said honey, no sugar feeding, sounds perfect to me. I would put a frame of honey in middle of brood.

Re: Round 2 of my grafting attempt??

Did you check each frame to make sure they didn't have a cell started when you removed the queen?
  7. Re: Brood, honey cells not attached to foundation

How many frames do you have in the box

    Re: Pics from the yard

Maple nectar is real, I had 2 supers full in most colonies by April 1st last year then 24 of them swarmed by April 20th. Paying closer attention this year. Here is a link, look at what is says...

    Re: Pics from the yard

Nice pics, did you feed in the fall? the open stores look very clear.
They should convert honey to brood this time of year.

Re: Pollen information for your area

I find it useful , been using it about 4 years. Mine shows the predominate pollen types they are counting, if it is bee friendly good, if not I disregard it,
  13. Re: What is the closest you have bees to your house?

At the most 17 colonies 35 feet from back door. Also had a swarm land 10 feet from back door on a rose arbor.

Re: What did you learn this winter?

Backfill brood nest, colonies that started winter in bottom box doing much better. Most colonies didn't even make it to the top honey.
Sugar only for starvation !!! So far no sugar this season.

Bottom board a work in progress ????

No landing board for snow or critters.
Cafe tray for oil - debris, my hope is to catch more SHB entering the hive, and most all, if any larvae inside colony, trapped in the tray. Any suggestions...

Is winter considered a brood break?

As the title asks, do bees benefit during the winter broodless period in overcoming mite loads in a treatment free plan?

Re: Please tell me if i need to feed.

See if they have back-filled brood frames for winter, if so you probably already have 60 lbs including the med on top. If not help them by feeding.
