    Re: Nosema Spring Treatment

Do you have a nosema problem? I have very little problem with nosema in the early spring. Winter tends to knock it down quite well.

Re: What is Nosema and how can we control it?

Square, in my reading of the studies controls did not have the rebound effect... so I don't feel this is a valid point. I do agree wholeheartedly that we have a very small understanding of the issues...

    Re: Dead outs???

I'd spray them with acetic acid or a bleach solution first, let them dry and put them in the hive. I believe that spraying them will kill most - but not all - pathogens lurking in the combs.

Re: What is Nosema and how can we control it?

Ian, just wondering if most of your nosema issues are from indoor wintering. Here in MA which is pretty cold I historically have very low nosema counts in the late fall and winter. I believe that the...

Re: What is Nosema and how can we control it?

When I check my bees I get my highest nosema counts in late summer. By first frost my hives tend to be pretty much nosema free. I think the infected foragers are all gone by then and the winter bees...

    Re: Any Plastic Foundation Preferences?

I use the Mann Lake PF-100's in the brood area and Rite cell in the supers. don't have any problem getting them drawn as is as long as there's a flow on or I'm feeding.
  13. Re: Has anyone used this method for killing Varroa Mites?

Re: Just bee heads outside the entrance?

I'd bet on shrews. I have a couple of hives with that problem. I think they got by the mouse guards.

Re: Massachusetts Beekeepers! House Bill, HD 2007

    yes

Worcester County inspector attaches them to one of my hives in each yard.

I really don't think we need anymore laws in the state

    Re: Arctic blast

I open hives at much colder temps that that to put sugar blocks on. Doesn't seem to bother the bees much and does not appear to affect winter survival.
  18. Re: Probiotics in prepared patties...WORD from the sacred Mountain

I see too strong a response to patties not to believe they are consuming it. Also, I see nothing being carried out of the hives when I feed it. They either ignore it or use it, mostly depending on...
