I have 10-12 nucs that will be available around the first of May if you are interested...central WV. Will be splits from my overwintered hives.
I am located in Birch River, Nicholas County. I'll have nucs this spring and have also some that I am overwintering. Email me at whiteoakacreswv@gmail.com if interested.
Thanks!
I'm overwintering 18 nucs this year and treated using half-dose of API Life VAR, 3 treatments 7-10 days apart with no problems. Overwintering in deep/deep and deep/medium nucs.

Looks like they have done well drawing out the frames but the drone brood and spotty brood pattern, to me, indicate a failing queen. This can be a problem with queens you get with a...
Welcome Martin...from a fellow Mountaineer! My Grandpa had bees when I was young as well and was my inspiration to start beekeeping.
I am in central West Virginia and had a swarm Easter Sunday...5 weeks ahead of last year! The earlier the better...this is NOT your average year.

Second swarm of the year in my outyard at about 3:00 pm. Queen couldn't fly and the 2# swarm ended up at the base of a chain-link fence post behind the hive. ...
Naymond,
I have a few available in WV. Not sure how near you're looking.

Bamindy...you might want to check out Eco Wood. I will be using it on all my new equipment. Paint don't seem to hold up well for me...even using primer and two top coats.

Not my hives but an acquaintance had two of his hives to swarm on 3/30/12. He was able to capture one of the two.
This is 5 weeks earlier than the first swarm from one of my...
I found 10-12 swarm cells (1 capped) in one of my hives yesterday and luckily found the old queen too. I moved the frame with the old queen, a frame of honey and a frame of pollen to a 5 frame nuc,...
I had a hive last fall that had over 100 drop count in 24 hours. Treated with MAQS late last fall and this spring it is booming, more so than the rest. It definitely disrupts the bees for a day or...
I would have to agree with Tia. Your dog being chained is the issue. In all the other posts, it seems that they are free to run away...huge difference.

Rick,
You're welcome! Glad to hear that you got your missing issue. That is very neat...didn't know you were a published author. :)

I was searching for "vintage beekeeping" on eBay and remembered that you were looking for the June '74 issue of Bee Culture. Here is a link to all 12 issues from 1974 if you are interested.

Have you been watching on eBay? Found the December '74 issue but didn't see June. Just a thought.
