I feel sorry for the Italian Beekeepers who are having their hives destroyed by fire. When the beekeepers have lost their income, the Agriculture Department employees and government officials who...

    Re: Honey from downunder????

In that case I will stand corrected. I wonder if it has any significance as a honey producer in this country.

    Re: Honey from downunder????

Just goes to show you cannot always rely on the internet for fact. Manuka honey comes from Leptospermum Scoparium that grows in New Zealand.

    Re: Honey from downunder????

I always thought Australia was referred to as "downunder" and not New Zealand, but then again, I do not live there. No Manuka honey is produced in Australia. We have Jelly Bush which has similar...

My stockist did not have a lot of choices and I bought a Mann Lake (non jumbo) smoker, on-line from him. It is the one shown on the left on the attached photo. After inspecting it on arrival it looks...

    Jumbo Smoker

I am in the market for a new smoker. Since they last a long time I want to be sure that the smoker is going to suit me before I buy it.

Originally, I was thinking of getting a Jumbo one because of...

    Re: Running two queen colonies

Bernhard, I too really like your posts. I think you could write a great book entitled "Turn Your Beehive into a Honey Pump". It would be a best seller in the bee world.

Also I am very intrigued by...

    Re: frozen honey

Does honey actually freeze? I thought it didn't so the bees could access it in the depths of winter.

    Sticky: Re: squarepeg 2015

Great to hear you are avoiding artificial feeds. Seems are lot of beekeepers forget that the honeybee's natural food is pollen, nectar and honey. Robbing all the honey off the bees and feeding them...

    Re: Tomorrow ADVANCED BEEKEEPING

Oldtimer, where did you source the information that Langstroth used an 'apple box'?

Eva Crane in her book 'World History of Beekeeping and Honey Hunting' said he use champagne cases from France.

Poll: Re: Poll: What is your favorite bee tool?

Sounds like you may not be using good smoker material. You also have to light your smoker at the base, not put the smoker material in and light it from the top.
  16. Re: Anyone ever had an allergic reaction to a sting that they did not have before.

I have found that their stings can be more potent when they are working a certain species. Here we have a Melaleuca with a pollen crude protein content in the 36% range which is quite high. The...

    Re: Christmas lights for hives?

As 'crazy' is part of your name, why not put some small flashing red lights up and give it a try. Also you could build some little chimneys for each hive as well.
