  1. Re: New beekeeper First time dealing with aerial crop dusting

They use helicopters to crop dust near one of our apiaries. Two years & no hive kills yet.
All the farmers know where the bees are located.

Re: Harvest timing, when and why?

Anytime the hives have a couple full supers per hive.
It gets too heavy for inspections.
Some years that's one time others its 3 times.

Re: I think my bees are preparing to swarm

The queen cup isn't an indicator that they swarmed. My hives always have those small cups in them. If they recently swarmed you would see several torn apart queen cells.
  6. Re: Treatment Free - European Foulbrood - Newbie could use advice...

EFB often goes away when a new queen is added.
    AFB is the nasty one.

Re: Small cell bees and Survivor bees

I start everything on the Mann Lake small cell plastic frames. Haven't treated with anything stronger than powdered sugar in 8 years, & my average annual losses are under 15%.

I think the bt powder has to be used within a couple hours of mixing. I was told the bacteria dies if left in water too long.

Re: Hive stand from black pipe? How much flex?

For short legs 1" is very strong. Horizontally I don't think I'd more than 2 or 3 full size hives. Nucs & singles wouldn't be a problem to go more.

Re: Why do Male Drones Bees Die after mating mating

Very similar to why female bees die after they sting.
One has the venom sac remaining, the other has the sperm sac remaining in the victim.
