    Re: Swarm Trap

Notice I carefully used the qualifier, "in my experience"
I can't explain why, the results were less. They are different approaches, to attraction.
I can remember a couple times that both were...

    Re: Swarm Trap

    I've tried all 4 types:
    LGO
    the pheremone test tubes
    the wipes

the test tubes and LGO seems to work best for me,

Re: Too many hives at 1 place?

    no one has a monopoly,
I have the same situation here.
yield is way down, only the super strong colonies produce a surplus.
  6. aggressive racoon, or fox?, climbs 12 feet, flips heavy lids, eats comb, trap set

Fish cat food, is the bait. That high up, I could probably poison with rat pellets, but will try "humane" way first.
Anyone here, good at identifying animal doodie? Property owner said raccoon or...

  10. Re: full sun, small cement pad, fenced, (for me) = very little SHB

Have you had a chance to watch what happens to larvae that try to make the trip?
    no
  11. full sun, small cement pad, fenced, (for me) = very little SHB

A larger cement pad would be great,
but this location has only about 10 percent of the beetles my other nearby locations have, even after 2 years.
    Just saying.
I am sure, they can migrate a few...
  12. Poll: Is Florida citrus doomed? Are most beeks no going to groves in 2014?

It's old news, Citrus greening spraying left a lot of losses in 2013.

    How will this evolve?
    No new plantings?
    Destroy old trees?
    Abandon groves, with old trees?
    Orange blossom honey price...

  19. Is Florida orange honey in it's last few years? a rare commodity?(spraying, greening)

I guess, If it comes to that California, can take up the orange honey slack.

Maybe this post is too obvious a question, to be of any value.
  20. Re: Why couldn't a South Florida breeder, stock up on queens in Sept, and make them a

No plans, on doing this, just thinking outloud, about the marketing, the obvious, that there would be demand,
I called a couple Hawaii breeders, and they said no queens until May.

  21. Why couldn't a South Florida breeder, stock up on queens in Sept, and make them avail

Seems hobbyist and others would pay a premium for any queens in the winter off season, even if they were a month or two old.
Right now, as far as I know, there NO queens available to me,...

  23. Re: what's your worst bee sting experience?

One incident involves a motorcycle, with hive teetering on back, a bungy cord, and a quick UTurn. - about 100 stings
Another time, lawn mower, flinging a rock, yes, with tshirt exposure. - about...
  24. Re: land owner wants me to place hives right under electric high tension wires

  25. land owner wants me to place hives right under electric high tension wires

You know the ones real tall, like a giant scaffold, 6 stories high

the magnetic fields, must play havoc, especially if you are near a spike.
