  1. Re: HELP. Installed package, I have a dead queen. What to do.

I am a new beekeeper, too. One thing I am learning...is the bees always know what's best for them to survive, it's just us humans that have to figure out what needs to be done on bee time.
  2. Re: Observed bees hauling out dead and flying far away

I enjoy watching all the goings on the front steps, too.
I don't know why some bees can't carry the dead and some can take off and fly away with the dying or dead. Seems they would all weigh about...

I would think if you used a flashlight, the bees would fly at the light. Is that right?

    Re: Fiberglass/nylon screen vs metal...

Yes, it's a hard size to find. Lowe's, Home Depot and Ace don't have it. I took back the nylon stuff and got my money back from Lowe's since I didn't use any. I kinda had a hint the bees might...

    Fiberglass/nylon screen vs metal...

Will bees eat through the fiberglass/nylon 1/8" screening, (I have some on hand)? Or do you recommend the metal anyways?

  13. Re: Will the half left without a queen make it this early?

I am new at this, too.

So...if you split the hive and the one queen goes to one side or the other. The side that does not have a queen will make one. But, that will set that hive back about 30...

I really do not see how something like that can be implemented. Canada is such a large country and very diverse. And has more remote areas than the Lower USA. How is someone to know if you have hives...

Thank you JRG. I understand now. That's pretty bad to go to those lengths for someone's bees. That's like cattle rustling.

I'm new to beekeeping and certainly don't know anything about the commercial side.

Re: Texas beekeepers hives messed with.

Boys are more destructive than girls. If that were boys, they would have done some damage to see how the bees would react. Maybe pushed a hive over or thrown stuff at one till they got buzzed.
