While I am excited about the effectiveness of raw honey, I have to let you know another piece of the puzzle: my friend also quit smoking in that time, which I am sure made a huge difference as well.
I used a mix of honey, turmeric powder, and water on a friend's tunneling bedsores with fantastic results. The sore had been around for almost TWO YEARS. The opening was so small (about 4mm) that it...
Hmm, they ARE antsier than they used to be... Didn't see any queen cells (yet?)
Checked one of my tbh today: there is some uncapped brood, but I didn't see any eggs (which doesn't mean they aren't there...!), and not much capped brood. Is this normal at this time of year? They...
Has anyone tried Flower Essences on their bees? I have started to use some, and am curious if anyone has experience with this.
Also see my post re water/vinegar mix instead of smoke in this forum.
I tried biobee's approach of misting a water and vinegar mix instead of smoke and haven't had any problems. I like the ease of just using a spray mister instead of having to keep the smoker going....
Thanks everyone! I'll let you know how it went. Who knows when/if she'll get around to actually spraying the Roundup...
My landlord wants to spray the invasive Knockweed we have here with Roundup. There is lots of that stuff around the property; not immediately next to the hive, but within 25 feet. Property is 2...
I thought Carniolans as a breed do well in colder climates? The package may have been raised in the south somewhere, but as a breed they should do well up here?
One of my tbh (Michael Bush's design) has 24 of 36 bars fully drawn, and 3 or 4 partially. The other, just over a mile down the road is still at 17 bars.
The bigger one has tons of bees in it...
Just curious if I missed something, and where I could find out.
I built these with Michael Bush's instructions and dimensions. Easy to do without woodworking skills!

Here are some pix of my hives.
Forgot to mention that I did put one drawn comb from a previous hive (with honey in it) about 1/3 to 1/2 down the hive. Guess that may have helped them get their bearings?
I hived 2 packages 3 weeks ago in tbh's I built with Michael Bush's instructions/dimensions. Didn't have time to put a comb guide on the bars though, so i took a few bars from an old hive that had...
2 tbh near Saratoga Springs, NY.
The Pfeiffer Center in Spring Valley, NY offers workshops on natural beekeeping. I think this year's is already past though.... www.pfeiffercenter.org
I hived 2 packages a week ago. One of them is building slowly but surely towards the entrance end of the tbh.
The other is building more near the middle. I had given them some honey comb from my...
I ordered 2 packages to replace my hive that didn't make it through the winter. In addition, I ordered 2 Carniolan queens to put in with the packages.
How can I keep the queens that came with the...
Thank you Michael!
I built 2 hives by myself following your instructions, no problems so far. Will get someone to show me how to rip boards for the bars. My bees have been delayed for yet another...
Hi Michael,
Thank you for all the info you are making available on your website and the beesource forum! It is so helpful.
I am a fairly new beek with no woodworking skills, but the Kenyan...
Thank you all!
I have top bar hives with no foundation, so will probably opt for keeping the cork on for a few days so they can get used to the new queen.
