Make them into some Dadant Jumbo supers.

    Otherwords - square.

    Experiment.

    Have fun.

  2. Re: Extra depth deep hive bodies, anybody sell them?

I think all the old inventory is gone.

Even the last of the frames.

But once a year Dadants makes new jumbo deep foundation for two or three days.
Most is for orders, very little stays in...

If you plan to use them as honey supers and foundationless be sure to put them between fully drawn frames on each side and already capped would be better yet.

You can also use them in a deep the...

Re: 5 gallon buckets- Home Depot or food grade?

Food grade is made with virgin plastic, absolutely no post consumer recycled plastic.

Most everything else has some to save on costs.

A sideliner in our club does three frame nucs with his own grafted queen cells.

He'll do 10 to 20 at our club field day just for hands-on educational demonstrations.

    Depends on how many cells...

Re: Help- live queen, dead hive

    Now I'm confused.
I thought you segregated her to keep her safe, not to make her easy to find when they killed her.
If she can't do her job they might not accept her.
    I'd suggest letting her out...

The fanning is a positive note.
If the attendant bees are not trying to bite thru the cage she should be ok.
    Sounds like you are set.

Re: Help- live queen, dead hive

If the queen has no bees to feed her and she can't get to any food herself, she will die.

Bees only rest a few seconds at a time. They are active 24 hrs a day, so they need to eat 24 hrs a day.

Re: Anyone know what this (antique) thing is?

I agree also, it's a homemade hillbilly 'boardman' feeder.

If all you have is some scrap wood, reclaimed nails, hammer, handsaw, and a pocket knife you can do a lot things sitting by the fire...

Living can be dangerous if you're stupid.
I do alot of remodeling of old work, add-on's etc.
I cut thru alot of framing nails with no problem.

    Re: Do you eat propolis?

    That's what I do.

Helps the joints relax at end of some tough days.

I find that most all burr comb in hives with only foundation based brood comb is drone comb.

If you add one or two foundationless frames to the brood nest you might find much less burr comb.
